The 56-year-old resort, which is run by the grandson of the original founders, was also named the Family-Owned Business of the Year
by the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce

ANAHEIM, Calif., March 15, 2013 – Anaheim Resort RV Park has received local and national awards for its outstanding customer service as well as its exceptional business achievements and contributions to Anaheim’s business community.

Anaheim Resort RV Park was one of 42 campgrounds, RV parks and resorts across the country to earn an all around “A” grade in the fifth annual GuestRated.com satisfaction survey of independent parks.

This 120-site park received an “A” grade in overall guest satisfaction for the year 2012. This was the second year in a row that Anaheim Resort RV Park received the “A” rating.

More than 30,000 camping and RV enthusiasts completed reviews in the GuestRated.com online survey, grading their experiences at 3,200 independent RV parks and campgrounds across the country.

“Consistently earning an overall ‘A’ grade from guests is difficult, and our 42 winners this year represent less than 2% of all of the nation’s campgrounds.” said Bob MacKinnon, president and CEO of GuestRated.com, the Murrieta, Calif.-based company that conducted the online survey on behalf of the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds

Five days later, Anaheim Resort RV Park was named “Family-Owned Business of the Year” by the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce in an awards ceremony recognizing the park’s exceptional business achievements and outstanding commitment to Anaheim’s business community.

“We’re obviously very humbled and blessed to receive these local and national awards,” said R. Vernon Mangels, Anaheim Resort RV Park’s CEO.
Mangels is the grandson of resort founders L.V. and Miriam Bostwick and now runs the resort as a third-generation owner.

The park was originally founded in 1956 as Midway Trailer City, which in those days was a mobile home park. But when Disneyland expanded in the 1960s and bought up RV parks on the west side of the amusement park it created a need for more overnight RV spaces, so the Bostwick family decided to transition their park from a mobile home park to an RV resort in the late 1980s.

It turned out to be a prudent decision. Even today, most of Anaheim Resort RV Park’s business is travelers heading to Disneyland.

But Mangels said business success -- and high customer ratings -- require much more than a good location. In the RV resort business, it also requires exemplary facilities and amenities and a willingness to make continual improvements.

Toward that end, Mangels has spent between $500,000 and $750,000 on improvements during the past four years. This includes building an on-site 1960s Cafe, updating the RV sites with new utility connections and picnic tables; remodeling the park’s office and swimming pool, adding new areas for guests to walk their dogs (pet friendly), installing programmable swimming pool and restroom door locks and installing a reliable state-of-the-art Wi-Fi system.

Mangels has also increased the number of people working at the park to handle maintenance as well as front desk check ins.

“People receive an incredibly high level of guest service when they go to Disneyland, so I’ve raised the bar here,” Mangels said, adding that his park has also received more than 345 reviews on TripAdvisor.com and been rated the number one specialty lodging provider in Anaheim.

And since the people who stay at Anaheim Resort RV Park are typically heading to Disneyland, Mangels has forged a partnership to sell Disneyland tickets. “We’re the only RV park that sells actual Disney tickets on our property,” Mangels said, adding, “We sell a lot of them.”

The park, which is less than a mile from Disneyland, also has Anaheim Rapid Transit (ART) shuttle stop on their property, which offers convenient transportation for RV park guests to and from Disneyland and the surrounding area.
