AUBURN, Calif., May 22, 2017 — Procrastinators are in luck!, the statewide travel planning resource for camping enthusiasts, has identified a handful of privately owned and operated campgrounds and RV resorts that still have a few spaces left for Memorial Day weekend.

“There’s not many,” said Debbie Sipe, executive director of the California Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, which hosts

“But we have identified a handful of campgrounds and RV resorts from Borrego Springs and Julian northward to the Eastern Sierra and Klamath that still have spaces available.”

They include:

— Bakersfield River Run RV Park in Bakersfield: The park has 122 RV sites with concretes pad and large grassy areas as well as full hookups with water and sewer service as well as 50 amp electrical connections, 70 channel cable TV and WiFi service. The park also has a recreation room with a fitness center, computer work stations and laundry facilities.

— Butterfield Ranch Resort in Julian: This park features RV and tent sites as well as furnished cedar cabins and a bunkhouse. Onsite amenities include three swimming pools and two spas; horseshoe pits; volleyball courts; and a children’s playground. Activities nearby include hiking, bird watching and off road vehicle trails.

— Coleville / Walker KOA in Coleville: In addition to offering RV and tent sites, this campground has a 10-room motel with spacious rooms that are twice the size of today’s hotel rooms. The lodge also has separate, fully stocked kitchens, which families can rent so they can prepare their own meals. This campground also has its own restaurant, which is frequented by guests as well as travelers and local residents from nearby communities. This park, which is located near Topaz Lake, is often used as a base camp for families visiting attractions in the Eastern Sierra, such as Bodie and Mono Lake. The area is renowned for fishing, hiking and birding as well as riding, whether by ATV, horseback, mountain bike or motorcycle. A casino is located 10 miles north of the campground.

— Kamp Klamath RV Park and Campground in Klamath: This campground is planning an all you can eat salmon and chicken barbecue with live music over Memorial Day weekend and every weekend thereafter during the summer months. The salmon is fresh caught from the Klamath River is served along with a stir fry vegetable jubilee and a garden salad with three different types of lettuce, tomatoes, green onions and radishes, all of which are grown in the campground’s 2,400 square foot organic garden. “It’s all you can eat, buffet style,” park owner Aaron Funk said, adding that barbecued chicken is also available for those who prefer it. “We also have live music with a three or four piece band every Saturday night,” Funk said. For dessert, the campground serves marshmallows, freshly roasted over a bonfire.

— Lassen RV Resort in McArthur: This remote Fall River Valley campground is planning to open a 24-seat bistro on Memorial Day weekend that will feature gourmet fusion type foods with flavors inspired by cuisines around the world. “A sample food item, for instance, will be a Vietnamese inspired sandwich — Bahn Mi with local meat, organic veggies, and avocado mayonnaise. Or an Irish Stew made with our local grass fed sirloin simmered in Guinness beer,” said park co-owner Phillip Martin, who is opening the restaurant with his wife, Jasmin. “We will also have a grilled sandwich made with all organic ingredients — almond butter, a hazelnut chocolate spread, like Nutella but organic and not as sweet, bananas and blueberries. We also will have burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches and hotdogs, but all will have a gourmet touch to it!”

The Springs at Borrego in Borrego Springs: This 160-site park features three furnished, two-bedroom, one-and-a-half bath park model RV rentals. On Saturday, May 27, the resort will offer a free concert and dance party with rock band Sing Cycle with Harry Joe Reynolds.
