Far Horizon's 49er Village RV Resort Receives an "A" Grade in the Fifth Annual Consumer Satisfaction

PLYMOUTH, Calif., March 15, 2013 – Far Horizons 49er Village RV Resort was one of 42 campgrounds, RV parks and resorts across the country to earn an all around “A” grade in the fifth annual GuestRated satisfaction survey of independent parks.

This 329-site park received an “A” grade in overall guest satisfaction for the year 2012. More than 30,000 camping and RV enthusiasts completed reviews in the GuestRated.com online survey, grading their experiences at 3,200 independent RV parks and campgrounds.

“Consistently earning an overall ‘A’ grade from guests is difficult, and our 42 winners this year represent less than 2 percent of all of the nation’s campgrounds.” said Bob MacKinnon, president and CEO of GuestRated.com, the Murrieta, Calif.-based company that conducted the online survey on behalf of the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds.

Built in 1973 by Rex and Mary Nicholson, Far Horizons 49er Village RV Resort has been a popular destination RV camping enthusiasts from the San Francisco Bay area, Sacramento and the San Joaquin Valley regions who come to the Sierra foothills to enjoy the rural character of the historic Gold Rush Country towns, outdoor recreation, and the region’s many wineries.

“The acclaimed Shenandoah Valley wine region of Amador County is home to approximately 40 wineries,” said Chuck Hays, Far Horizon’s third generation owner and operator. He added that 75 wineries are within close driving distance of the park.

But while Far Horizons is in a popular location, Hays said the park earned an “A” rating because of its attention to detail and its responsiveness to suggestions contained in consumer surveys. “We’ve done these surveys for a number of years and always used them as an internal tool to improve our operations and customer service,” Hays said. Recent improvements to both the resort’s wi-fi system and cable TV system are directly related to guest feedback from survey respondents.

In addition to offering over 300 full-service RV sites, Far Horizons 49er Village RV Resort also features 15 vacation cottage accommodations that are available on a bed and breakfast plan in conjunction with Café at the Park, an on-site deli/espresso café. The resort also offers organized activities and special events, the most popular of which are its two Halloween-themed weekends, which include resort wide trick or treating, costume and campsite decorating contests, a pet costume contest, a pumpkin carving contest and a best scream contest.

“Our guests go all out for Halloween,” Hays said, adding that the park’s two Halloween themed weekends for 2013 are already sold out.

Far Horizons also organizes an onsite parade and campsite decorating contest for July 4th weekend as well as a series of “fun and silly” kids games for Labor Day weekend, including sailboat races in the swimming pool.

Far Horizons continually makes improvements and upgrades to its facilities. Recent improvements include a major swimming pool complex, campsite surface and utility upgrades and an expansion of VIP caliber RV sites.
