Clear Lake is the oldest lake in North America and the largest natural freshwater lake in California. Adventurous visitors will discover year round boating, fishing and hunting plus national forests, state parks and other public lands with trails for hiking, biking, rock collecting and bird watching.

Lake County provides the best bass fishing in the West with year round tournaments including annual catfish and trout derbies. Mt. Konocti, a majestic landmark that can be seen from any point along the 100 mile shoreline of Clear Lake is a dormant volcano that sits at an elevation of 4,300 feet with guided hikes offered on selected days.

Where else in the US or the world can you take a free tour of a geothermal power plant. The Geyers is the largest complex of geothermal power plants in the world producing superheated steam, a clean, renewable, and natural energy source.

Lake County's harvest includes luscious pears, locally brewed beer, English walnuts, goat cheese and awrd winning wines that have been served in the White House and overseas on Presidential tours. Currently there are four wineries and several tasing rooms with many more on the drawing board. Scenic wine, vineyard, wildflower, ranch and history tours by wagon, carriage, motor coach and limousine are available.

History and genealogy buffs will find several treasures at the two county museums. Stargazers and astronomers will enjoy a trip to the Taylor Planetarium and Observatory in Kelseyville. Car racing fans can enjoy competition at the Lakeport Speedway every Saturday night beginning in April and continuing into October.
